AMELIA GRACE

A writer’s gonna write, baby.

Hi, I’m Amelia, a writer and content lover based in the East Midlands. I’m a poet at heart but love to get my teeth into any writing; from flash fiction to magazine features - I’m all about it.

With a background in Adaptation studies, Feminist Theory and Modernist Literature nurtured by my degree in English Literature, I like to write about the emerging world and its evolving experiences as a way to navigate contemporary social ideas, trends and politics. These ideas are also being developed further through my MA in Creative Writing degree, which focuses on building a collection of poetry that evokes the experience of the online world for Gen Z, as I find my niche as a contemporary writer.

As a poet, I’m also really interested in the experience of a text beyond the words. From the paper it’s printed on, on the screen it’s read from, the cover design and when and where it may be read. For me, the words are shaped by its surroundings and that’s where meaning begins to be morphed.

Alongside my love for writing poetry, I also love to write features for magazines that further explore themes of nostalgia, identity, and the experience of the world around us. Writing for Sunday Girl Magazine on the topic of female experience, social media trends and the playfulness of identity, I have loved being a part of publications that offer a mix of content which frames and shapes my writing.

My first publication and poetry collection, Morpheus won De Montfort University’s Christopherson Award for Art and Design, and explored the experience of the internal and external self through dreams. This project knitted together my love for Modernist Literature’s disorientating and fragmented construction of experience, as well as my love for design, editing and putting together print publications and opened up a whole new creative space for me to enter into.

As a writer, my niche lies within my interests and understanding of the ever-changing world we live in, particularly in response to the digital world. I’m always looking for ways to produce an experience and like to play into the ambiguity of imagery and the themes of experience and reality, perception, and perspective. I’m fascinated by the complexity of the human experience and the multiplicity of self, and words are my way of playing within that.

I’ve also started an Instagram account (a.g.writings), which follows my writing experience, as well as serving as a little creative outlet to play with. It’s the best place to find me, wandering around the ever-growing digital world and all of its tiny fragments of reality.
